Winning Tips for Matchmaking Agency Blind Dates

You've registered with a matchmaking agency or a mixer, the blind date is all set, and now you're just sitting there worrying because you have no idea what to do. A lot of people are in that spot.
A lot of people think a regular blind date and a matchmaking agency blind date are the same thing, but this calls for a whole different strategy.
1. You're meeting with marriage in mind.
Too obvious? Still, the very premise is different from a regular blind date.
When we go on a blind date set up by a friend or a coworker, what's the first thing we look at?
There's that joke we all make: 'Could I kiss this person?' If the answer is yes, we can date them.
Since looks are what's right in front of you, naturally you check whether you like their appearance,
or whether they're funny and quick-witted and easy to talk to.
You can't help focusing on these surface-level things. In other words, the first thing you check is whether this is someone you could date.
But a matchmaking agency blind date is about asking, 'Could this person be my spouse?'
It's a meeting with someone you might spend the rest of your life with, at least 50 more years.
Could this person be the mother or father of my children? Could they blend in with my family?
The weight of those questions is on a completely different level from starting a relationship on simple attraction.
Think of it as a meeting where you're choosing 'the person you'll spend your life with'.
2. You're meeting after seeing their basic conditions.
On a regular blind date, casually asking about someone's salary, family or education
isn't easy. Even if you ask the person who set you up, it can come across as rude.
But at an agency, all of that information is disclosed and approved before you ever meet.
Where they live, their assets, education, job, salary, religion, looks, family background and all sorts of other conditions.
So, what does that mean?
It means: 'The conditions are already more or less satisfied, so if I meet them and the person is decent, I could marry them.'
In a way, you're walking into a first meeting already knowing
things you might never have shared even with a partner of several years.
Some people say, 'How can anyone be so calculating about meeting someone? That's not love.'
But what you need to think carefully about is this: marriage is reality.
What if you marry for love alone, without these conditions being reasonably met?
Other factors could end up tearing that love apart.
And yet, the reality is that even getting matched at an agency is far from easy.
The conditions checked out, you met, and the person is decent too.
So, is that it, you get married?
Actually, as I said earlier, this is someone you'll spend 50-plus years with.
You can't help but consider lifestyle, hobbies, values and so on...
But at an agency, it's not easy to find out that much.
If they matched you with all of that taken into account from the start, the wasted time, money and energy would drop dramatically.
So if you've felt the limits of agency blind dates,
it's worth looking carefully at what questions the agency you're registering with asks, and whether it gives enough consideration to your temperament, hobbies and values,
before you decide.
In the next post, I'll go into detail on what to consider when registering with a matchmaking agency.
