Who Signs Up With a Premium Matchmaking Agency?

Who Signs Up With a Premium Matchmaking Agency?

While looking into matchmaking agencies, you've probably seen plenty of places calling themselves "noblesse" or premium matchmaking agencies.
The word may make them sound intimidating, but it simply means a matchmaking agency for the upper class.

You've heard of "marrying up," right?

You can think of it as a matchmaking agency where you can meet someone with better financial standing than yourself.

In the past, the main clientele of premium matchmaking agencies was said to be women.

In other words, men could meet women while paying almost nothing.

Recently, as women's specs have risen, the ratio has stabilized at nearly 50:50.

Put simply, the premium matchmaking agency of the past was

a place that helped pretty, young women with "feminine" jobs and decent educations marry up.

The premium matchmaking agency of today

is best thought of as a place where you can meet someone at your own level, or a little higher.

"Is marriage something you buy with money?" There will certainly be people who see it negatively like this.

But most marital fights start with "money."

Imagine a couple whose combined income is over 150,000,000 KRW a year, who have an apartment in Seoul their parents bought them,

and a car as well. A household like this will naturally have a housekeeper, right?

Fighting over housework simply stops being a thing.

As long as they don't overspend every month, they'll actually have money left over.

They won't have to fret over living expenses or pocket money and nag their spouse about it.

With the surplus they'll make better investments and grow their money even further.

For raising children, they could hire a nanny too.

Then the couple can spend their free time enjoying hobbies together or traveling.

In fact, there's a statistic that households earning more than 10,000,000 KRW a month have a divorce rate under 5%.

There's nothing wrong with dreaming of this, is there?

A premium matchmaking agency is a company that works to fulfill exactly this.

It gives you the opportunity to meet someone with the specific conditions you want.

So then, is it all over once you get matched with someone of similar specs to yourself?

This is where agencies start to differ.

What matters after the match, I'll cover in the next column's topic, "What Makes a Good Premium Matchmaking Agency."
